Concepts and calculations

Econparity estimates how the purchasing power of an amount changes between two years. It compares the price index at the start and end and shows the nominal amount that would have been needed to buy approximately the same average basket. Advanced mode can also model compound interest, annual contributions, and historical market references.

Basic mode focuses on inflation and monetary equivalence: starting amount, inflation-adjusted amount, cumulative inflation, and estimated purchasing-power loss. Advanced mode adds a user-defined annual rate, compound growth, inflation-indexed recurring contributions, real growth, and scenario comparisons. The chosen rate is not treated as guaranteed performance.

The starting amount is multiplied by the end-year CPI divided by the start-year CPI. If the index rises from 100 to 125, the general price level rises 25%, so 1,000 units in the first year are approximately equivalent to 1,250 at the end. Changing an index base does not change this ratio.

No. Cumulative inflation measures the increase in the general price level. Purchasing-power loss measures how much buying power a fixed amount retains. With 25% inflation, an unchanged amount retains 1 ÷ 1.25, or about 80% of its original purchasing power.

Yes. When the start year is later than the end year, the same index ratio estimates past equivalence. Years beyond the last available observation use a constant technical inflation assumption and are identified as estimates. They are not official data or a personalized forecast.

Data, currencies, and results

Econparity currently supports USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, and CAD. Each currency has a separate lab tied to its jurisdiction: U.S. CPI-U, euro-area HICP, UK CPI, Swiss LIK/CPI, and Canadian CPI. One country's index is never applied to another currency.

The series rely on official statistical bodies: BLS, Eurostat/ECB Data Portal, ONS, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, and Statistics Canada. Econparity stores comparable annual values and, for recent monthly observations, groups valid observations by year and calculates their average.

Reference agencies generally publish monthly and may revise earlier figures. Econparity incorporates data periodically after format, continuity, and consistency checks. It is not a real-time service. The current year's value may be a partial average and can change as more months or revisions are published.

CPI represents an average basket for a defined population and territory. Your housing, food, transport, health, region, and income pattern may differ. Econparity provides a general reproducible reference; it does not calculate personal inflation or replace an individual budget.

They are analytical opportunity-cost references, not investment recommendations. S&P 500 Total Return includes reinvested dividends; Price Only is an approximation that subtracts a configurable dividend yield. Recent data and the optimistic scenario may include estimates. Taxes, fees, spreads, and personal circumstances are excluded.

Accounts, reports, and exports

The basic calculator works without registration. Visitor preferences and limited history are stored in the browser and may disappear if you clear it or change devices. An account can synchronize plan-supported history and identity-based features. Econparity is not a permanent backup service.

CSV provides a simple year, index, and annual-inflation table. Excel adds formatting, metadata, and source information. PDF presents the calculated scenario, metrics, charts, interpretation, and, where the plan permits, custom branding. Content can vary by mode, available data, and plan.

Yes. The interface and report process receive the same central parameters and results. Before sharing, review currency, amount, years, rate, contributions, S&P mode, and branding. A later official-data revision does not automatically update an exported file.

AI, privacy, and subscriptions

AI receives quantitative scenario data and, in chat, the text you submit to produce contextual explanations. It does not change the core CPI formula. Responses can contain errors or omissions; verify important conclusions and never submit credentials, secrets, or sensitive financial data.

Depending on the feature, Econparity may process email, account and session identifiers, preferences, scenario parameters, history, reports, AI prompts, usage counters, and subscription status. Lemon Squeezy processes payments, and Econparity does not directly store full card details. See the Privacy Policy for providers, retention, and rights.

Billing is managed through Lemon Squeezy. Use the customer instructions or portal provided after purchase, or contact support@econparity.com for help. Unless checkout states otherwise, cancellation prevents the next renewal and access continues through the paid period.

No. Econparity is an educational and analytical tool. Its calculations, scenarios, AI, and reports are not financial, investment, legal, tax, or accounting advice and do not guarantee returns. For important decisions, consult a qualified professional familiar with your circumstances.
